NBA Playoff Format
The NBA Playoffs determine the league champion following the regular season. A total of 16 teams qualify for the playoffs, with eight teams from the Eastern Conference and eight teams from the Western Conference.
The six best teams in each conference automatically advance to the postseason, while teams ranked seventh through tenth compete in the Play-In Tournament to determine the final playoff seeds.
The NBA playoffs consist of four rounds played in a bracket format. Each matchup is a best-of-seven series, meaning the first team to win four games advances to the next round.
The tables below explain how the NBA playoff format works, including the number of teams, playoff rounds, and series structure.
