NBA Season Format
The NBA season consists of the regular season, the Play-In Tournament, the NBA Playoffs, and the NBA Finals.
During the regular season, each of the league’s 30 teams plays an 82-game schedule at arenas across the United States and Canada. Teams face opponents from their division, conference, and the opposite conference throughout the season.
The results of those games determine the league standings and which teams qualify for the postseason. After the regular season concludes, the Play-In Tournament decides the final playoff spots before the NBA Playoffs begin.
The tables below explain the structure of the NBA season, including the number of games played and how the postseason works.
